City of Wildomar AB 2140 Certification
The City of Wildomar is proud to announce that we are now AB 2140 certified! This important designation comes after the adoption of our FEMA-approved Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) into the Safety Element of our General Plan, as approved by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES).
What does this mean for our community?
Assembly Bill 2140 (AB 2140) allows cities and counties in California to be considered for additional state funding under the California Disaster Assistance Act (CDAA). In the event of a declared disaster, this certification makes Wildomar eligible to receive a higher level of cost-share assistance from the State of California. While funding is not automatic, it means the City could potentially have most or all of its local share of disaster recovery costs covered, easing the financial burden on our residents and helping us recover more quickly.
Why is this important?
Normally, cities are responsible for 25% of the local cost share on disaster recovery projects. With AB 2140 compliance, the State may assume up to the full amount of this cost if approved by the legislature after a disaster. This certification demonstrates the City’s commitment to disaster preparedness, resilience, and fiscal responsibility while strengthening our ability to respond to and recover from future emergencies.
Wildomar’s AB 2140 status will remain in place until our current LHMP expires in April 2028, at which time the plan will be updated and re-adopted to maintain compliance.
